Heidi Axelsen
What’s Left Behind
Steel and sand

This installation seeks to express the temporal, fragile and impermanent nature of life, a process of renewal and decay through ephemeral form.

By association the skeletal lambs and their shadows suggest a cyclical process of transformation and are reminders of the drought and increasing salination that is transforming our country into an arid place.

In the urban landscape we are largely unscathed by the impact of the drought, although our actions contribute to and perpetuate this problem.

The lamb as a symbol although used historically and religiously, in this context alludes also to current sacrifices being made for our convienence.
